WILLOW CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
BUSINESS MEETING
APRIL 2, 2008
Pioneer Lodge ~ 6:00 p.m. Dinner
7:00 p.m. ~ Meeting

President Jim Huston called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

The secretary report was read by Karen Mattson and approved as read.

The treasurer’s report was given by Tom Phillips: $3,014.55 in General Acct: $1,699.80 in Savings Acct; $475.00 in Gaming Acct; and $1,510.78 in Gaming Savings.

President’s Report
President Jim reported he will not pursue the chamber sign for ‘entering Willow”. $600.00 was too much money and there will be more discussion on the issue during next month’s meeting.

Old Business
Jim reported on the success of the golf tournament at Willow Lake. Nina Davidson was introduced as a guest and will speak on the upcoming Health Fair. Two banners were presented to Sam Newman as a token of appreciation from the chamber.

New Business
Jim presented a petition to DOT on Willow Lake usage he has placed around town.

$2,000.00 is available for scholarships to Willow High School seniors. Jim Norcross moved we present 2 - $1,000.00 scholarships. Scholarship requirements: Write a short introduction of themselves and their perspective continued education plans. Write an essay on one of the Willow Area Service groups or churches; commenting on the ways that group improves the lives of the people of Willow. Add a statement on how they might someday serve their community. Discussion followed and the motion passed. Gail, Tony, Dorothea, and Kathy will serve on the scholarship selection committee.

A discussion was held on our role in the 4th of July events and parade. Tom P will research.

After Nina Davidson’s report on the April 26th Health Fair. Tony DeLucia moved we donate $500.00 to the Health Fair. It was seconded and the motion passed.

Chuck Renfro gave a presentation on geothermal energy heating systems.

The next meeting will be May 7 at the Gold Miner’s Lodge ~ the guest speaker will be on the Clean Water Mining Initiative.

A recommendation from a member was to acquire a speaker from the other side of the issue.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
